What is Alzheimer's Disease?

Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, and it’s a progressive, fatal brain disease that currently has no known cause or cure. While it’s often linked to memory loss, the effects go far beyond just forgetting things. Scientists still don’t fully understand why some people get Alzheimer’s and others don’t, but researchers all over the world are working to figure out what causes it—and how we can better prevent, diagnose, treat, and one day cure it.

Early Symptoms

It’s common for people to experience mild forgetfulness or occasional memory lapses as a normal part of aging—like struggling to recall a word or someone’s name. However, in individuals with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, these symptoms become increasingly frequent and significantly more severe over time.
